My therapist loves recommending things to me.
Julie is amazing. She'll fill my inbox with boomer memes about self love, Instagram Reels that apply a little too perfectly to what we talked about in our sessions, with podcasts (SO. MANY. PODCASTS.) and books, lots and lots of books.
When she sent me Overthinking About You, I immediately added it to my Amazon cart and clicked buy. I've been carrying it around in my bag and reading it with my iced Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks... it's just a little too hot for the real thing here in Davis.
If anyone overthinks in relationships, it's me. I mean, I have an entire Instagram account dedicated to writing poems upon poems upon poems of my endless trail of heartbreaks and losses at the hands of another unworthy man. Also, I grew up watching Allison in Buzzfeed videos and I always related to her and her warm spirit.
Reading this book is like having a conversation with Allison; every piece of dialogue, every anecdote, every joke, they all feel real and raw. From the very first page, Overthinking About You makes you feel warm and welcomed and SEEN as someone who has a little trouble navigating the world of messy relationships and hookup culture.
(more to come)
